Memorial Weekend at Engedi Lodge

Saturday found us eagerly packing the van in preparation for our jaunt up to Escanaba U.P. for a relaxing weekend at Engedi Lodge. The Deladurantey family had invited us and the Yachanin family up to spend Memorial weekend together. We arrived around 7 p.m. and the Yachanins came in around 9. Everyone turned in soon after arrival, and settled down to sleep.
For the record, there were 2 digital point-and-shoot cameras, 3 SLRs (two of which were digital), and three video cameras on the premises. Needless to say, we had plenty of media coverage...

Let's Go Fly a Kayak...

Transporting the kayak and canoe from Lodge, to water and back, proved to be rather... exciting....
The canoe almost slid off the purple van, and the kayak nearly blew off our van, which prompted the following rendition of Mary Poppins' "Let's Go Fly A Kite":

Let's go fly a kayak,
up to the highest ayak.
(another word for "height")
Up to the atmosphere,
up where the air is clear.
Come, let's go...
fly a kayak!

The Ghost Town of Fayette

We Lodgers decided to spend an afternoon at the old town of Fayette, so after a picnic lunch, the fathers and sons set off in canoe and kayak to meet us in the town. They actually got there just as we did! Fayette is a great place to wander around as a photographer, lots of old buildings, water, and trees to capture! Posted by Picasa
